A Nursery Seating Option: Rockers versus Gliders

A Nursery Seating Option: Rockers versus Gliders

You've got the crib, a dresser, and a changing table....what's next? A great addition to consider is a nursery seating option. Rockers and gliders offer a soothing motion that mimics being in the womb to calm baby while giving you a chance to get off your feet. There are a few things to consider when purchasing a nursery seating option such as movement, comfort level, and construction.

Rocker versus Glider

The main difference between a rocker versus a glider is in the way they move. The rocker’s arched legs create a swaying motion and typically a stronger movement while a glider is stationary; moving back and forth on a mechanism and tend to offer an almost noiseless, smoother ride. Some gliders also swivel and have a lock feature so curious little fingers don’t get caught. Adding the reclining feature is also helpful for both breastfeeding and relaxation! Leading breastfeeding consultants say that reclining while breastfeeding is the optimal position, plus while your baby is napping, you can nap with them in the recliner.

Construction and Comfort Level

When looking for a chair you’ll want to make sure it lasts. Splurging on a chair is definitely worth it! It will see its fair share of spit-ups and spills. Make sure your upholstery can handle all that! An another feature you’ll want is that the chair is easy-to-clean. A lot of nursery chairs have waterproof, spill-proof, and easy to clean material. You’ll also want to look for supportive backing. Nothing is worse than an uncomfortable chair for those 3 am feedings. The addition of an ottoman can make your chair even more comfortable for propping up baby.
